AROUND 1,000 young Islanders from 31 primary schools took part in the yearly initiative to encourage the safe enjoyment of swimming in the waters around Jersey.
The Swim Safe programme, created by Swim England and the RNLI, has carried out training with schoolchildren aged nine and ten in conjunction with The Bosdet Foundation and Jersey Sport.
Qualified instructors and beach lifeguards took the classes. Alan Le Pavoux of the Bosdet Foundation said, ‘Swim Safe is vital to give children on our Island as many opportunities and experiences as possible.
‘Swim Safe not only teaches vital water safety skills, but also opens opportunities to experience one of Jersey’s greatest assets – our beaches.’
